Look Out - here I come!

I can't help but be surprised about all that our school board has available in terms of assistive technology. As an educational leader I am very disappointed I wasn't aware of all there is to offer. My job pulls me in what seems like a zillion different directions and I obviously missed the AT direction. As they say, you don't know what you don't know. I am very fortunate to be in this course and will make it a point to share all that I am learning with other administrators who may be in the same situation that I am. I certainly don't think I am alone. I will also make every effort to provide PD for our school staff; especially our program planning team and the people who work directly with the children who can benefit most form AT. I will also call upon our school board AT Support Staff, as they are the true experts who can help us make a significant difference. Oh, what I can do with this new found knowledge!!!

  1. Hi Pam -nice blog by the way. I was also surprised by the AT available in our board. I think it is fantastic however, it is tricky being a teacher to find the time to work with the AT. I have also tried to sign up for AT training and the coursed fill up too quickly. It would be great if I could book a day with the EPA's in my class to work with AT at the Bell Building. I think it is great that you will make the effort to provide PD for staff- I wish all administrators we that interested in AT. (:

  2. Hi there - I agree Heidi it would be fantastic if we were allowed the time to learn about all of the AT we have available to us through the board. Even a more comprehensive list that provides us with a brief overview of what the programs are geared towards, sometimes you can't determine that with just the name of the product. It would also be great if there were more positions at the school board geared towards Assistive Tech. The specialist at the board are great, but spread too thin. I guess more time and effort on the boards part has to be implemented. The next question is, how do we convince them to do that?

  3. I am happy that there is a principal that is so excited about AT and will get their teachers using it. How will you help your teachers become more comfortable with the technology?

  4. You ask how will I help our teachers become more comfortable with technology - Provide the inclass resources, time and support: the rest should take care of itself. I'm optimistic!

  5. Pam, I am so envious of you NS teachers and the staff and resources you have available. I only wish we had someone like Barb with her wealth of information. On the other hand, because of this course, I feel that am able to share the knowledge that I now have with others to allow them to see the full potential of the programs that we do have.
